CLASSIFICATIONS

AGE DIVISIONS

AGE AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2018

 

MINI : 8 & under

JUNIOR: 9 - 11

INTERMEDIATE: 12 - 14

SENIOR: 15 - 19

ADULT: 20+

AVERAGE AGE CALCULATION FOR GROUPS: deimal from .01 to .49 will be rounded down; decimal from .50 to .99 will be rounded up.  Example: Group average age 8.49 will be entered in age 8 division; group average 8.50 will be entered as age 9 category.

*Studio Directors, Choreographers, and/or Independants must have proof of age of all performers available upon request during competition weekend in the event of a challenge regarding entry classification.  Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

*Dare2Dance Inc. reserves the right to re-classify any routine to be found in violation of age division parameters.

 

CATEGORY

SOLO: 1 dancer - maximum 3 minutes

DUET: 2 dancers - maximum 3 minutes

TRIO: 3 dancers - maximum 3 minutes

SMALL GROUP: 4-9 dancers - maximum 3.5 minutes

LARGE GROUP: 10-15 dancers - maximum 3.5 minutes 

LINE: 16-20 dancers - maximum 3.5 minutes

EXTENDED LINE: 21 or more dancers - maximum 8 minutes

*Prop set-up and tear down must not exceed 1.5 minutes.  MUST notify Dare2Dance Inc. at time of registration if large props require more time.  Failure to comply will result in mark deductions.

*Time violations will result in mark deductions.

SCORING

TITANIUM: 94+

PLATINUM: 90-93.99

GOLD: 85-89.99

SILVER: 80-84.99

BRONZE: 79.99 & under

CLASSIFICATIONS

NOVICE

SOLO: No prior competitive dance experience in any genre of dance.

DUET/TRIO: 100% of dancers must have no prior competitive dance experience in any genre of dance.

GROUPS: 75% of groups must be comprised of dancers with no prior competitive dance experience in any genre of dance.

 

COMPETITIVE

SOLO: Less than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

DUET/TRIO: 100% of dancers must have less than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

GROUPS: 75% of groups must be comprised of dancers with less than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

 

ADVANCED COMPETITIVE

SOLO: More than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

DUET/TRIO: 100% of dancers must have more than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

GROUPS: 75% of groups must be comprised of dancers with more than 6 hours of training per week in any genre of dance.

 

PROFESSIONAL

Dancers 18 years of age and older receiving financial compensation for any genre of dance instruction, choreography, and/or live performances.  Any routine containing a professional performer must be entered into the Professional Classification.

DANCE GENRES

ACRO (ACROBATICS)

Routine consisting of acrobatics/gymnastic movements combined with any other genre of dance.  At least 50% of routine must consist of acrobatic tricks including, but not limited to, aeirals, balances, tumbling lines, etc.

ACRO TRICK: Dancer completes a 360-degree rotation with hips and/or both feet above their head.  Examples: Including but not limited to all forms of each of the following: aerials, cartwheels, handstands, headstands.  A tumbling line is considered a signle acro trick.  PLEASE NOTE: Illusions, shoulder rolls, and entering/exitig of lifts NOT considered an acro trick.

BALLET

Routine consisting of classical ballet technique demonstrating a combination of fluidity and percision of movement.  Includes demi-pointe and demi-character.  Acro tricks strictly prohibited.

CONTEMPORARY/MODERN

Routine utilizing the entire body interpreting music by fusion of different genres of dance with unique artistic expression.  2 acro tricks permitted.  Limited use of lifts permitted.

HIP HOP

Routine based on urban street style of dancing including funk, freestyle, breakdance, and locking & popping.  Only 3 acro tricks based on breakdancing maneuvers permitted.  Example: head spins, chest stands, flips, and/or hand stands.

JAZZ

Routine consisting of standard jazz technique demonstrating coordination and style with limited floor work and partnering.  1 acro trick permitted.  PLEASE NOTE: Illusions, shoulder rolls, and entering/exiting of lifs NOT considered an acro trick.

LYRICAL

Routine utilizing ballet and jazz technique to evoke emotional interpretation of music lyrics.  1 acro trick permitted.  PLEASE NOTE: Illusions, shoulder rolls, and entering/exiting of lifts NOT considered an acro trick.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Routine consisting of any genre of dance while combined simultaneously with acting and/or lip syncing based on live productions (i.e. Broadway shows) and/or musicals.  1 acro trick permitted.  PLEASE NOTE: Illusions, shoulder rolls, and entering/exiting of lifts NOT considered an acro trick.

 

OPEN

Routines that do not qualify in any other category in any genre of dance.  Includes Ethnic styles of dance.  Maximum of 5 acro tricks permitted.  PLEASE NOTE: Illusions, shoulder rolls, and entering/exiting of lifts NOT considered an acro trick.

 

POINTE

Routine consisting of classical ballet technique performed in Pointe shoes demonstrating a combination of fluidity and precision of movement.  Acrobatic tricks strictly prohibited.

 

PRODUCTION

Routine based primarily on a concept, theme, or storyline utilizing any genre of dance.  Lip syncing and/or acting permitted.  Acro tricks permitted.

 

SONG & DANCE

Routine consisting of vocals combined with any genre of dance.  Lead vocals on music strictly prohibited.  1 acro trick permitted.  PLEASE NOTE: Microphones must be provided by studio/organization/independent.  Sound checks must be scheduled during adjudication breaks.  *Dare2Dance Inc. and its partner vendors are not liable for the use of microphones.  Additional fees may apply.

 

TAP

Routine demonstrating musicality through the percussion of tap shoes.  1 acro trick permitted.  Use of tap sounds in music strictly prohibited.
